When It’s Snowing Don’t Forget Snow Chains

WHERE TO FIND THE TIRE SIZE

These are series of numbers and characters printed on the side of every tire. Usually for the modern tires the size almost always  presented this way: P185/60R13,as we can see,the tire has a width of 185mm,an aspect ration of 60%,installed on a wheel with a diameter of 3 inches. Understanding these numbers are especially important for you to find the suitable safety chains for your tires.

THE EXACT TIRES TO CHAIN UP

Usually you should choose the drive tires to chain up with tire chain. On vehicles with front-wheel drive this would be the two front tires, and if your car is rear-wheel drive then obviously you should chain two rear tires. If you’re not sure which type of drive system you have, then check the vehicle owner’s manual. If you have a four-wheel drive or all-wheel drive vehicle, and you only intend to chain up two tires, which axle should be chained up should be determined by the owner’s manual of your vehicle. If you want maximum safety and reliability on your AWD vehicle, get all tires chained up will be the choice.

If you drive your vehicle under regular condition, a vehicle has about the same amount of traction at each wheel, you will feel nothing unusual when asserting brake, acceleration and cornering. Under snow and ice conditions this balance is destroyed. If snow chains are installed only on the front tires, during braking and driving the rear tires will swing. If truck snow chain is only installed on the rear tires, you will have limited steering ability of vehicle. To get this balance back, you should put snow chains on all tires, driving or not. In most cases the snow chains on the market are sold in pairs, if all tires need to have snow chains on, two pairs will be required. And bear in mind that there are car tire chain and truck tire chain ,the truck tire chains usually are stronger and more expensive than car tire chains.
